The overall aim of the survey was to carry out a comprehensive survey of the way in which local authority and national park authority stakeholders perceive A+DS and to explore their experience of the organisation's Design Review service.

The overall aim of the survey was to carry out a comprehensive survey of the way in which local authority and national park authority stakeholders perceive A+DS and to explore their experience of the organisation's Design Review service. Specifically, the survey covered:

  • Awareness of A+DS - how much they know, personal and organisation experience, reasons for contact with A+DS;160
  • Awareness of Design Review - its purpose, who it involves, readership of Design Review reports, personal involvement in the process, reasons for referring to Design review;160
  • Experience of Design Review - initial contact with A+DS, preparation for A+DS, views of Design Review meetings, reports and recommendations,160
  • Impact of Design Review involvement - changes to proposals, use by planning committee members, wider influence on the organisation, raising awareness of design issues;160
  • Overview of Design Review - satisfaction with the process, strengths and weakness, recommendation of the service to others160
  • Perceptions of A+DS - views of the organisation, likely future involvement, recommendations.

Technical details

Ipsos conducted 20 depth interviews with key contacts from a sample provided by A+DS between 1 December 2008 and 7 January 2009. This included interviews with planning officers from 18 different Scottish local authorities and two national parks.
