Ipsos polling for Climate Week was launched alongside Britain’s biggest ever environmental occasion which took place between 4-10 March 2013. The research provides current measures on sustainable behaviour and attitudes towards climate change and other environmental issues. In this first release of findings we find that:
- Only a small minority of people throw away unwanted clothes (6%), instead typically choosing to donate them to charity (61%)
- A similarly small number throw away mobile phones when they stop using them (4%) and are far more likely to recycle or sell them (25% and 20% respectively)
- The large majority of the public (83%) will put something in a recycling bin on most days
- The majority of adults in Britain want to help prevent climate change (63%) and believe their actions can make a real difference in helping to protect the environment (56%)
- Almost half (46%) say they would sign up with a new electricity company if they could get energy that was more environmentally friendly at a comparable price
