Community Energy: A climate solution that’s potentially right at the doorstep

A new Ipsos survey commissioned by Bristol Energy Coop (BEC) reveals that only 1% of the British adults feel they are well-informed about the concept of community energy.

The new Ipsos poll commissioned by Bristol Energy Cooperative (BEC), a community-owned energy coop, shows, when asked “How much, if anything, do you personally know about the concept of 'Community Energy'?” only 1% of respondents know a great deal about the concept of community energy.

Only 13% respondents said they are aware of this concept (know a great deal (1%), a fair amount (2%) or just a little (10%)) and 26% have said they have heard of this (aware of (13%) or have heard of this but know almost nothing about this (13%)).

Technical Notes

On behalf of Bristol Energy Cooperative, Ipsos interviewed a representative quota sample of 2,173 adults aged 16-75 in Great Britain using its online i:omnibus between 3rd – 7th November 2023. Data has been weighted to the known offline population proportions of this audience for age, working status and social grade within gender and government office region.
