Ipsos conducted a survey for the Energy Savings Trust in September 2014 on attitudes to electrical appliances in the home. Among the key findings:

  • Half of households who have received an unexpectedly high energy bill check if unused appliances are switched off.
  • 55% of households have games consoles; a quarter of over 55s have them.
  • Nearly 40% leave consoles either on or in standby mode when not in use.

Technical Note The research was conducted online by Ipsos between 23 - 26 September 2014. The questions were asked of 2,418 Ipsos online panel members aged 16-75 across the United Kingdom. The data has been weighted to the national profile of the UK population.
