Local Environment: Establishing Acceptable Standards
A qualitative examination of the factors residents and local government professionals use to judge the quality of the local environment and public space and how such qualities are understood and applied. Twelve qualities by which an area might be judged were developed by University College London, based on a literature review. Participants were asked what factors they felt each quality would cover, as well as what they would regard as a 'good' or 'acceptable' standard for each and how they would evaluate these qualities in their local area.

Valuing the Water Environment: An investigation of environmental attitudes and values
The Scottish Executive commissioned Ipsos, in collaboration with Mott MacDonald, to conduct qualitative research to explore views about the quality of the water environment. and inform policy decisions in relation to the implementation of the Water Framework Directive and associated legislation. The research consisted of seven focus groups with members of the general public conducted between 5 October and 24 October 2006 and ten in-depth, one-to-one interviews with stakeholders conducted between 7 November and 14 November 2006. Key themes included: the meanings people attach to the water environment, the values attached to its different attributes, priorities for service provision, and how people should be consulted in the implementation process.

Ipsos Political Monitor January 2007
Ipsos's first Political Monitor of 2007 shows the Conservatives leading Labour by 4 points (39% vs 35%). This puts the Tory share significantly higher than it was during most of the Autumn, and represents a swing of 3.5% from Labour since the 2005 general election.

More of the public are satisfied with the way Gordon Brown is doing his job as Chancellor of the Exchequer than are satisfied with the performance of any of the three party leaders. However, Gordon Brown's personal ratings are the lowest recorded by Ipsos since 1997 with the exception of the fuel crisis in late 2000.
