Reuters/Ipsos Survey: 2020 Democratic Primary Tracker (03/10/2020)
Washington, DC, March 10, 2020 — In the most recent Reuters/Ipsos Democratic primary tracker poll, former Vice President Joe Biden continues to gain momentum among Democratic registered voters for the nomination for president, while Senator Bernie Sanders’ support remains consistent. Among Democratic registered voters, 54% report they would vote for Biden if the primary were held today, up 9 points from the Reuters/Ipsos post Super Tuesday poll (45%). About one-third of Democratic registered voters (33%) say they would vote for Sanders, statistically unchanged from last week (32%).
The poll also asked who respondents would vote for if the Democratic primary came down to two choices: Sanders and Biden. Among Democratic registered voters, 59% report they would vote for Biden, and 41% say they would vote for Sanders. If the universe is expanded to all Democrats and independents on the two-person ballot, Biden still leads Sanders 55% to 45%.
Among all independents and Democrats who said they would support Sanders in a two-person race for the nomination, about half (51%) say they would vote for Joe Biden in the general election if he is the eventual nominee, 12% would vote for a third party, 8% would vote for President Trump, and 28% say they are unsure or would not vote in the general election. Conversely, 61% of Biden supporters say they would vote for Sanders, 6% say they would vote for a third party, 6% would vote for President Trump, and 27% say they are unsure or would not vote in the general election at all.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll also examined support for a national primary day that would require all states to conduct their presidential primaries on the same day. About half (46%) of Americans support this idea, 16% oppose it, and 38% are unsure.

About the Study
These are some of the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted between March 6 and March 9, 2020 on behalf of Thomson Reuters. For this survey, a sample of 1,114 Americans age 18+ from the continental U.S., Alaska and Hawaii were interviewed online in English. The sample includes 956 registered voters, 420 Democratic registered voters, 415 Republican registered voters, and 92 independent registered voters. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics to ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within ± 3.3 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had all Americans been polled. The credibility interval will be wider among subsets of the population. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error, and measurement error. The poll also has a credibility interval ± 3.6 percentage points for registered voters, ± 5.5 percentage points for Democratic registered voters, ± 5.5 percentage points for Republican registered voters, and ± 11.6 percentage points for independent registered voters.
