Mai 2018 in Kraft getretene Datenschutz-Grundverordnung der Europäischen Union („DSGVO“) war ein weiterer Schritt zum Schutz der Persönlichkeitsrechte natürlicher Personen (und beinhaltet unter anderem strengere Beschränkungen bei der Zustimmung, das Recht auf Vergessenwerden, Vorschriften zu Art und Menge von personenbezogenen Daten, die genutzt werden dürfen, Datenzugriff- und Sicherheit).
