Vouchers, Vouchers don’t forget your Vouchers!

More than one in ten British adults had unused vouchers that expired within the last 12 months according to new Ipsos Omnibus research.

We’ve bought, won or received them, spent them, sent them, lost or forgotten them!  Gift vouchers or gift cards that is. If you’re anything like my family there’s a familiar groan when a old gift voucher turns up unexpectedly only to discover it had expired!

In fact, according to our Ipsos Observer poll, one in ten adults (11%) have found themselves in possession of unused vouchers that have expired within the last 12 months. This highlights the significant amount of untapped potential that remains dormant in the wallets, shelves and drawers of individuals across the nation.

More than one in ten British adults (11%) had unused vouchers that expired within the last 12 months

Furthermore, a further third (33%) of adults currently hold gift vouchers and/or gift cards that must be used within the next 12 months.

1 in 5 16–34-year-olds have unused expired vouchers (20%) compared to 3% amongst those aged 55-75

Based on our best estimates, the total value or remaining balance of these expired gift vouchers and/or gift cards amounts to £75.30 per person. This revelation serves as a wake-up call for consumers to be more proactive in making use of their vouchers and to stay vigilant in ensuring that theirs is put to good use.

£75.30 is the average value of people’s expired unused vouchers from the past 12 months. This was just over £86 on average amongst those aged 16-34.

With the cost of living biting and Christmas around the corner, don't let your vouchers go to waste. Vouchers don’t spend themselves so perhaps now is the time to get hunting down the back of the sofa and in old jacket pockets. Let's seize the opportunity to enjoy the full benefits they offer!
