Public And Patient Experiences Of The NHS

The Department of Health has released the latest Ipsos research looking at the overall state of the NHS in the eyes of patients and the public, including Ipsos's regular tracking of public views of the NHS and a recent wave of the in-depth Plain English workshops. These workshops help improve the way communicators in the NHS get across key health messages to the public by understanding how NHS communications are received and identify practical "jargon-busting" tips for local NHS communications teams.

Technical note

Public Perceptions of the NHS Survey: Results are based on 1,041 interviews conducted among a representative sample of English adults, aged 16+. Interviews were conducted face-to-face in respondents' homes between 12 November and 13 December 2005. Data are weighted to the known population profile.

November 2005 Plain English Workshops:Findings are based on discussion groups held in Hexham and Kingston in November 2005. The group were as follows Hexham (22 November 2005) C2DE, 45-60 years, mixed gender Hexham (22 November 2005) ABC1, 35-45 years, mixed gender Kingston (30 November 2005) ABC1, 60+ (retired), mixed gender Kingston (30 November 2005) C2DE, 18-35 years, mixed gender Groups were composed of approximately equal numbers of men and women, and were representative of each area with regard to ethnicity.
