    Ipsos and Sutton Trust research on Social Mobility

    Almost seven in ten members of the public (69%) believe that parents' income plays too large a part in the life chances of children in Great Britain, while over three in ten say that opportunities for social mobility in this country are "too low". Moreover, the majority of those who express a view believe that opportunities for mobility are lower here than in other advanced countries.

    Nearly three-quarters of people we spoke to (73%) agree with Housing Minister, Caroline Flint's, proposals that unemployed tenants who are able to work and live in social housing should risk losing their home if they are not prepared to take up opportunities for support and advice in seeking work (73%).

    42% of young web users aged 16-24 know someone who has been embarrassed by information uploaded on to the internet without their consent. And 78% of the entire adult online population would change information they publish about themselves online if they thought the material would later be reproduced in the mainstream media.
