Public 'Sceptical' Of Public Appointments
Although awareness of public appointments remains low in the UK, there have been some improvements since 2000 according to research by MORI. The research, commissioned by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA), shows one in five people (21%) say they have confidence in the system in place in this country.

Wide Variation In Customer Experience In Urban Post Offices
New research carried out by MORI jointly on behalf of Postwatch and Postcomm shows wide variations in customers' experiences of urban post offices. Researchers visited over 300 of the largest post offices in urban areas and assessed the whole post office experience including: queuing; quality of advice (including product knowledge, proactive questioning and customer handling); the post office environment, including availability of information and services both inside and out; facilities for the disabled. As a part of the exercise, researchers also sent and received packages to assess receipt, transit time and damage. Main findings include:

Direct Mail 'Binned' By A Third Of Britons
Two thirds of British people aged over 35 who receive direct mail either throw it in the bin (36%) or want it to stop (29%), according to research by MORI. The survey, commissioned by The REaD Group, shows two in five (42%) believe they receive seven or more pieces of direct mail a week.

Workplace Discrimination
Age is the largest determinant of whether a person is likely to be ill-treated in the workplace, according to new research from MORI. The survey — Diversity Matters — conducted for The Guardian and TMP Worldwide, shows nearly a quarter (23%) of British employees claim to have fallen victim to discrimination, bullying or harassment at work. This rises to 37% of older workers (over 55s). Ill treatment because of age is higher than that due to gender, race or sexuality, and is marginally higher than that because of disability.

Does Ebusiness Mean Good Business?
European companies leading in the take-up of ebusiness are more likely to engage on social and environmental issues, according to a MORI survey. The research was commissioned by Forum for the Future for the European Commission-funded project Digital Europe. For the survey, Corporate Social Responsibility practitioners and IT practitioners in large UK and Northern European companies were interviewed. This was to evaluate their ebusiness practices and performance in sustainable development, and then used statistical techniques such as factor analysis and cluster analysis to identify a link between the two.
