Resettlement: Living Situation in Germany

We invited all persons who are 18 years or older and have come to Germany as refugees with resettlement or the Humanitarian Admission Program Turkey since 2016 to participate in the survey.

Only people who have received a letter from us by post can take part. We only invited people who are 18 years or older and have come to Germany as refugees with resettlement or the Turkish Humanitarian Admission Program since 2016 to take part in the survey. We were unable to find the addresses of some people. We did not invite these people and they were therefore unable to take part. 

Your answers will help to find out what went well and where there were problems. The knowledge helps to improve the reception programs for refugees and to better support integration in Germany. In addition, scientific articles will be written about the research results. The report does not state who exactly took part (e.g. no names, dates of birth or similar), but scientific tables and graphs are shown.

We obtained your address from the Central Register of Foreigners (AZR) or from the immigration authorities and only use it to invite you to take part in the survey.

1. Your details from the questionnaire will only be stored under a code number, separate from your name and contact details.

2. We will only do this with the code number if you expressly agree that the information may be merged with data from the Central Register of Foreigners.

3. All answers are evaluated without names and contact details and without a code number. For example, all answers on family status are counted and the percentage results are calculated from this.

4. The overall result and the results for subgroups (e.g. men and women) are presented in tabular form. Information on individual persons is not recognizable in the results tables.

5. Your name and contact details will always be kept separate from the questionnaire data. After completion of the study, this data will be deleted by the Research Center of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. Only if you consent to the storage and transmission of your address for the purpose of subsequent repeat surveys will your name and contact details continue to be stored at the Research Center of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.

6.  Ipsos uses other companies to send you the mail and to translate your answers. The data will be deleted there after the end of the survey  

If you forward the links, people can take part in a survey. Like you, these people should have fled and not live in Germany. Through the survey for people outside Germany, we want to know where people come from and how they are doing in the country they have fled to. This helps us to learn how people who have not been resettled are doing. You can find out more about this survey here:

The protection of your data is your right and therefore a very important issue for us. Everything you say or write to us will be treated confidentially. We only analyze your data anonymously. All data protection rules are observed. You will receive detailed information about how we protect your data in the data protection sheet in this letter. To scan a QR code, you need an internet-enabled device (e.g. cell phone, tablet) with a camera. Depending on the model, you can open the QR code with the camera, a special app or Google Lense.

Researchers from the BAMF Research Center are conducting this research project together with employees from Bielefeld University. The project does not involve people who make decisions about refugees or the resettlement programs at the BAMF.

Once you have completed the survey, we will send you the €15 by post to your address. It does not matter whether you take part online, by telephone or by paper questionnaire. You can change the address to which the €15 is sent in the survey.
